Pre-Conference WorkshopCRSP Examination Preparation Workshop Monday and Tuesday, May 5 and 6, 2008 - 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Location: Max Bell Building Maximum of 40 participants per workshop The CRSP certification is considered a benchmark in the OHS&E profession and the designation of choice for Canadian OHS&E safety professionals. Beginning in 2009, the minimum formal education requirements will change. To give delegates an educational opportunity we are once again offering two CRSP workshops this year. This intensive two-day course prepares participants for the CRSP exam that is offered twice each year. If you are an occupational health and safety professional with three or more years of experience, you may be eligible for the CRSP designation. There are now approx 2,400 CRSPs in Canada. Employers value the title as evidence of professional status and experience. Both instructors have presented this course to hundreds of people across Canada since 1993. Effective Employee Feedback Monday, May 5, 2008 - 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Location: Max Bell Building Mike Williamsen, Ph.D., brings more than 25 years of professional safety leadership experience and is well versed in adult-learning best-practices. The Effective Employee Feedback workshop delivers three dynamic training sessions in one high impact half-day workshop. Safety culture change will be presented in an interactive work session featuring his trademark products: Speak Up! Listen Up! See It, Say It! Williamsen describes how to give and receive effective feedback, how to focus on the message, not the messenger and how each employee is able to contribute to workplace safety when listening and responding to one another. Establishing Safety Accountabilities Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - 9:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m. Location: Max Bell Building In his full day pre-conference workshop Establishing Safety Accountabilities, Williamsen will teach participants how to understand the essentials of safety accountability mechanisms and their best-practice applications and limitations. The session features a combination of case studies and video modules to focus on reducing injuries, developing personal work group safety accountabilities, measurements and rewards. BASIC HAZARD ASSESSMENT Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - 9:00 am - 12:30 pm Location: Max Bell Building Dennis Bolger is a health and safety professional with over 24 year’s direct experience in the safety management field, both domestically and internationally. Bolger is leading a half-day workshop on the basics of hazard assessment. The session will provide introductory skills for the practical application of hazard and risk management techniques, developed specifically for the oil and gas industries. Utilizing practical, fit-for-purpose approaches Bolger’s presentation will assist individuals who have been assigned the responsibility to develop hazard assessments for their organizations. Unraveling the Mystery of Hazard Recognition Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - 1:30 am - 5:00 pm Location: Max Bell Building Michael Fleming is Chairman and Principal Consultant, as well as the founder of Decision Point Associates, Inc. He is an accomplished safety, fire protection, environmental, and risk management professional. With over 30 years of professional oil and gas experience, Fleming holds a BS degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology and an MBA in Engineering Management. From job safety analysis to risk assessments, a strong basis in hazard recognition is essential. Yet many organizations lack competence in hazard recognition. The mystery lies in how to educate personnel in a high-quality, efficient, and reliable hazard recognition methodology. Join us for an enlightening look at how to build competence in recognizing and evaluating hazards with a universally applicable approach that supports all health, safety, and environmental management system components. CRISIS AND CONFLICT: HOW TO COPE Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - 1:30 am - 5:00 pm Location: Eric Harvie Theatre This half-day pre-conference session addresses the psychological impact of crisis and conflict. The aim is to inform delegates and provide insight and real tools on how to help employees cope with challenging situations. Two experts in the field will present: Dr. Brian Forbes and former Calgary Police officer Gary McDougall Dr. Forbes is a graduate of Queen’s University with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. His areas of expertise include the treatment of depression, anxiety, stress, anger management, and drug and alcohol problems. In the first half of the afternoon Forbes will focus on critical stress debriefing, dealing with trauma and defining what is normal and abnormal behaviour. Gary McDougall spent 25 years with the Calgary Police Service in various roles including: Hostage/Crisis Negotiator and Training Coordinator for all police conflict resolution training in Calgary. In addition, McDougall is also a Presenter/Facilitator at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia. In the second half of the session McDougall will provide a process for addressing a person over a contentious issue and show how assumptions can result in counterproductive relationships. He will also demonstrate the importance of exploring people’s ‘interests,’ those factors that motivate and drive people’s actions. |
