Jim
Stewart is an Executive-in-Residence and Adjunct
Professor of Strategic Management, at the University of Toronto. Mr.
Stewart is currently doing research on business strategy, management of
change, self-management, competitiveness and safety, as well as consulting
for a number of companies. He retired in 1991 from DuPont Canada, where he
was a senior vice-president, in charge of a number of businesses and
functions. His 30-year career at DuPont included corporate management,
business unit management, marketing, strategic planning, manufacturing,
technical management and research. For several years, he had
responsibility for DuPont Canada's manufacturing and engineering, during a
period of great change. He was one of the leaders in developing and
implementing the concepts of world-class manufacturing, self-management
and empowerment.
Dr. Robert
Conn a children's heart surgeon and Executive
Director of the SMARTRISK Foundation (formerly the Canadian Injury
Prevention Foundation), believes that eliminating injuries is the most
effective kind of preventive medicine. During his medical career, he
treated hundreds of children and young adults with serious injuries who
faced lives full of suffering and loss. He is convinced that the majority
of these injuries were preventable.
Dr. Alan
Cocks is President
& CEO of Texaco Canada Petroleum Inc. A native of Berkshire, England,
he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the
University of Exeter, England, in 1965 and a doctorate in 1968. He also
received a master of business administration degree. Dr. Cocks joined
Texaco in 1968 as a Senior Geophysicist at the Research and Technical
Department's Belaire Research Laboratories in Texas. He held several
positions and, in 1992, was named Director of Texaco's Latin America/West
Africa Division - Technical Services.
Dr. John
Cowell is President & CEO of the Alberta
Workers' Compensation Board. Prior to this appointment, he served as the
WCB's Consultant Medical Director for approximately one year. Dr. Cowell
graduated from the University of Toronto with a Doctor of Medicine in
1970. Presently, in addition to his corporation responsibilities, he
teaches Occupational Medicine at the University of Calgary and the
University of Alberta and is President of the Association of Workers'
Compensation Boards of Canada.
Charles
Morecraft is President of Phoenix Safety
Management. His experience includes 27 years as an Exxon refinery worker
and Manager of Safety. Mr. Morecraft was critically injured in an
explosion that burned over 45% of his body. He presents his experience to
audiences in a manner that motivates people to never take safety for
granted. Mr. Morecraft has traveled extensively, making presentations for
the past five years, and makes the comment, "I'm just an ordinary guy with
an extraordinary story to tell."
